Julia has extensive litigation and crisis communications experience across industries including manufacturing, entertainment and hospitality, financial services, energy, environment, real estate and retail. She has worked with dozens of the nation’s leading law firms on federal and state litigation issues including antitrust, foreign corrupt practices, false claims, anti-money laundering, SEC investigations, DEA investigations, consumer fraud, complex mass tort, and employment law such as discrimination and unsafe working conditions.
As a trusted counselor to some of the nation’s leading corporations, non-profits and trade and professional associations, beyond her litigation and crisis work, she has extensive experience in corporate communications, internal communications and reputation management.
Over her 27-year career, Sutherland has worked with organizations including Catholic Health Initiatives, Cardinal Health, the Tennessee Valley Authority, The Walt Disney Company, Bridgestone, The Center for Audit Quality, The Nature Conservancy, Nike, Samuel Adams, Walgreens, Medco and Food Lion. Julia also led a large international communications team working with Firestone on its 2000 tire recall, during which she was responsible for media strategy and implementation.
Her prior agency experience includes Public Strategies Inc., Ketchum, Powell Tate and Fleishman Hillard.
Prior to embarking on a career as a consultant, Julia served as press secretary to U.S. Senator Chuck Robb of Virginia. She served for four years as deputy press secretary to then-Governor Robb followed by several public affairs posts in Virginia state government.
Julia received her bachelor’s degree in government from Sweet Briar College.
