Emily Pierce has spent more than 20 years at the intersection of the law, policy and politics. After spending 17 years as a Capitol Hill journalist and editor, Emily joined the Justice Department Office of Public Affairs where she ran the day-to-day operations of the office, developed media strategy for domestic and social policy issues, and ran crisis communications on several Congressional oversight and case-specific issues. She also served as an advisor to Attorneys General Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch, as well as to Deputy Attorneys General Sally Yates and Jim Cole. Following Ms. Yates’ dismissal by President Trump in January 2017, Emily was a key part of Ms. Yates’ Senate hearing prep and handled all national media engagements. Emily continues to periodically advise Ms. Yates on policy-related media relations.
Prior to joining CLS Strategies, Emily spent two and a half years at Vrge Strategies counseling corporate and trade association clients on a range of legal and policy matters, including on antitrust and competition issues, cybersecurity policy, cryptocurrency regulation, banking regulation and tech policy, to name a few.
Emily was an award-winning journalist at Roll Call newspaper for 11 years, where she covered the House, Senate and White House and rose to become Deputy Editor, the second-in-command at the publication.
Prior to her stint at Roll Call, Emily worked as a beat reporter for Congressional Quarterly.
