An experienced executive communicator, media strategist, and speechwriter, Rob has worked in every level of government advising leaders on how best to create and spread a winning message. He brings those same skills and understanding to his clients at CLS, who span the firm’s practice areas. Whether facing a pressing crisis, pending litigation, or looking to build a long-term public affairs campaign, Rob’s clients can rely on him to help translate complicated regulatory, legislative, and political challenges into language that makes an impact.
Rob comes to CLS Strategies from the Obama Administration, where he served as the speechwriter for U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, Assistant Secretary for Health Karen DeSalvo, and their respective deputies. Prior to that, he was a consultant and Director of Critical Impact Analysis at KO Public Affairs (now KOFA Public Affairs) in Baltimore.
Previously, Rob worked as the speechwriting consultant to Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s transition team, the Chief Speechwriter and Deputy Press Secretary for Maryland Lieutenant Governor Anthony Brown, Chief of Staff to Baltimore City Councilman Jim Kraft, and on the communications and field teams for a variety of campaigns and elected officials in Illinois, New York, and Maryland.
A New York native, Rob got his start at the Clinton Foundation, where he worked while finishing his B.A. in History from Purchase College (SUNY). He was also a graduate fellow at the Frank C. Munson Institute of American Maritime Studies at Mystic Seaport, where he studied the role of cultural and religious organizations in rapidly changing 19th and 20th Century maritime communities.
